Eliminating ‘faddy’ foods and eating a sensible, well balanced diet is the hidden gem in any weight loss programme.
In truth, weight management should be fairly easy – if we eat more than we expend in energy then we will gain weight. However it’s not always that simple.
Even when we stay within our calorie requirements (basal metabolic rate), it’s still vital that we get a varied and balanced diet.
This includes the following:
- Fruit and vegetables – about 1/3 of the food you eat each day.
- Starchy foods such as potatoes, breads and rice – 1/3 of your daily intake
- Milk and dairy products – around 2-3 portions a day
- Non-dairy protein such as meat, fish, eggs and beans – 2-3 portions a day.
We also need to make sure we have adequate micronutrients (Vitamins Minerals) in our diet, which are often found in the same foods as those above, but in varying quantities.
A successful weight loss programme should always be backed by nutritional guidance.
Then there’s the issue of the salt and sugar content of the food we consume, and how this affects our diet and weight loss/gain.
And what about the types of food within each category. Do you we eat white rice and steak or brown rice and chicken?
With some easy to follow guidance and tips, be.fit can help to support you through your food journey, helping you to gain a varied and balanced diet and make sensible food choices along the way. No one’s saying it’s easy…but it makes it a lot more easier when you know how!
