Magazines and the press are packed full about the revolution of HiiT workouts hitting the gyms and fitness studios, but how do they work and what are their benefits on the body?
With 3 be.fit classes a week dedicated to HiiT inspired workouts, let’s really understand the power behind HiiT training and it’s effects on fat loss.
A workout based upon the HiiT principle will offer an intense burst of energy followed by an active recovery period. The exercises can be resistance based as well as aimed at CV, which means the body will sculpt as well as trim the fat.
Why is this important?
This style of working out will allow the body’s overall fitness levels to increase, and the fitter we are, the better and harder we can perform and push our bodies as we take on each workout. Aside from this the fitter we are, the better our bodies will perform day to day, whether that’s running up the stairs or rushing in and out of the local store for groceries.
At the moment there are 3 be.fit classes dedicated to this style of workout. Fusion.fit (Mondays 9:15am) and Circuit.fit (Wednesdays 9:15am/Thursdays 6:15pm). You may be thinking that this is only for the super elite. Well you’d be wrong! The beauty of HiiT is that as long as you do not have any serious injuries or health problems, you simply work at the intensity that is right for YOUR fitness level. So it doesn’t matter what the person next to you is doing, it only matters how hard YOU are working.
As long as you are pushing hard, you’ll feel all of the benefits of muscular strength/endurance work as well as a cardio hit all in one workout. And we’re not finished yet…as you work at such a high threshold you’ll benefit from what we call EPOC. This creates an after-burn effect which means your metabolism has to work harder for up to 24-36hrs post workout. If your metabolism is working hard, then you’re burning more calories.
When we get our metabolism heightened like this through regular workouts, it means our overall metabolism rate will increase day to day, making you a lean, mean fighting machine against fat and poor fitness!
So, with summer on the horizon and the lighter evenings upon us, there’s no time like the present to get out and get healthy. Why not get inspired by a range of exercises and make your own circuit to try out in your local park?
